With the temperature in the high 30’s and feeling even hotter, the Banger Colts assembled on a dusty pitch at the 1st Infantry Battalion Ground to play the Thai National Team. The Colts had not played fifteen a side game for some time. For the first twenty minutes, the team spent ironing out a few game kinks. The National Team however, showed their teamwork through repeated and effective use of the maul. Despite stubborn Colt defense, the Thais crossed the line twice. It was 12-0 at the water break.
Using the break to refocus, the Colts stepped up in the second quarter and effectively blunted the Thai attack with solid tackling, The Colt forwards and backs were now causing the National Team concern however, they were unable to score. At the end of the quarter the score was still 12-0.
After half time, the Colts started playing their own game. Pick and drives by the forwards brought them up to the Thai line and the ball was given to Kane who burst through from close range to score under the posts. Kim converted and the score was 12-7. Soon after, again with effective pick and drives, Jurgan using his speed, was able break the line and scored under the posts. Another conversion and the Bangers were in the lead 12-14 at the final water break.
In the fourth quarter the National Team fired up by their coach, ramped up their play and scored quick try (but no conversion) makes the score 17-14. Both teams were now playing with passion and commitment. It was hard rugby with neither team dominating in the searing heat. It was the National team who finally scored with a good team move, to take the final score to 22-14. It was an excellent afternoon of rugby and brilliant play by both teams in very hot trying conditions. Final Score : Thai National Team 22 Banger Colts 14
