Last Saturday under moody skies and in humid conditions the Bangers hosted and played the Manila Nomads in their second round match the South East Asian Challenge Cup
It was apparent from the first whistle the match was going to be a physical battle where neither team was willing to give up ground. The ball that the Bangers backs got going forward rarely allowed them to exploit the resolute Nomad defense. As the game progressed the Nomads scrum gained an upper hand and their line out was winning good ball. Rear guard action by the Banger loose forwards saved their bacon on a number of occasions however, defensive judgement lapses lead to three Nomad tries.
In the second half, the pattern of the match changed. the Bangers came out for the second breathing fire and fought hard to get back into the match. It was possible to sense that the Bangers believed they had a chance and the whole side responded, controlling possession and territory scoring two tries. Unfortunately it wasn’t enough. At the end of the day the Nomads had the points on the board and were deserving winners in what was an afternoon of scintillating club rugby.
Whilst it was a disappointing start to the new season many lessons where learned and the Bangers remain confident of a successful 2012 season. Final Score : Manila Nomads 22. Banger Colts 12
