Colts Win In Jakarta SEA Challenge Cup Clash

Last weekend the Banger Colts travelled to Jakarta to play the Komodos in the key round of the SEA Challenge Cup. Both team were undefeated. In biblically atrocious conditions the Colts won the tightly fought contest to secure a massive victory. The licking they took in the match last year in Bangkok against the Komodos in same competition was avenged. The Colts came away smiling.

Both sides tried to give a display of open rugby however, with the adverse conditions and slippery ball, handling errors were plentiful. Neither side dominated. The Colts in the first half played conservative rugby. The Komodos had their opportunities too and at one point were camped on the Banger try line. The Colt defence seem to thrive in these situations, defending their line herorcally, keeping the Komodos scoreless.

After a great run of play Chris Fargus scored a superb try. Max Labardin had a great afternoon with the boot, slotting the conversion and a penalty shortly after. Late in the half, the Bangers had the misfortune to lose two players to the sin bin.

An inspirational half time talk saw the Bangers still two men down, come out firing and take control the game. Despite the extra men the Komodos could not find a killer blow to vanguish the committed Colts. Oddly, after the Bangers were back to fifteen men they struggled to get their game together. With impressive attacking play with pace and great offloading Jakarta threw everything at Bangers. With twenty minutes to go, after a plethora of penalties against the Bangers the Komodos were in command. They scored two well work tries.

As the match drew to an end there was some time for some late drama. With the score 17-14 the Komodos again were dangerously close to scoring. The Colt defence as has been the case all season, was resolute, smashing and tackling all the Komodos could throw at them.

This paid off gaining possession from Jakarta’s spilt ball. After a series of kick and chases, and pick and drives, the Bangers found themselves down the other end of the park, five yards from Komodo try line determined to add points to the scoreboard. Max  the Banger mecurial Colt half back, snapped up the loose ball from a forced turnover and dived over to seal the game. Final Score : Banger Colts 24, Jakarta Komodos 14
