Last Saturday the Banger Colts produced a stunning display of attacking rugby on home soil to run in three tries and claim victory over the Saigon Geckos in the SEA Cup Championship. A magnificent all-round team performance to finish worthy winners.
The Colts came out all guns firing and were rock solid, controlling early possession and territory with good work at the breakdown by the forwards, and gaps found at will by the backs. This early pressure finally told when good work down the right-hand flank led to a blind side break away resulting for a touchdown
The Geckos also contributed much to a high intensity match. Their strong mobile forwards were fast and their outside backs had a turn of speed and were not easy to contain. This game was no walk in the park
The second half brought a shift in momentum. the Colts seemed to lose their grip and allowed the Geckos back into the game. Although the Colts enjoyed a big advantage in possession, they struggled at times to dominate. Its was their solid defence and determination that kept them in front
To beat the Geckos emphatically was more than the Banger Colts hoped for. Adrien Simon led the side magnificently with strategic kicking and midfield back management. The Fakua brothers had magic games, Eddie Evans, the evergreen Canadian international was ruthless, Dylan Bower were always dangerous with ball in hand and the loose forwards tackled anything in sight. It was team effort and it would an injustice to isolate the rest of the players
The Colts played to their potential. They can be proud of this performance in this tough competition. Final Score : Banger Colts 17, Saigon Geckos 5
