The Phuket International Tens Tournament last weekend, affectionately known by the Bangers as the "Mud Wrestling Tens" will not be remembered the most memorable Phuket tournament for the Banger Colts.
Arriving late at the ground for the first game the Banger Colts saw the game given to their first opponent the Thai Legends. This was indeed unfortunate. A close loss to the Singapore Bucks in the next game put their campaign in jeopardy. All was not lost though. A magnificent win against the Taipei Baboons with the all backs and forwards playing well. Final Score: Colts 25 Taipei 0. On the Sunday they faced the Melanins from Japan and again the Colts played to their potential comfortably winning the contest. Final Score: Colts 31, Melanins 5.
The weather was turning sour with gail force winds and incessant rain. By the time the Bangers faced the eventual tournament winners the Moorabbin Rams, the pitch was a sea of mud. The Rams handled the conditions better than the Colts and ran our worthy winners. Bringing half the population of Melbourne probably helped, with the Rams able change the team at half time.
Their was only one thing to do that was to enjoy some Phuket hospitality and tournament partying. This the Bangers do well and their "what happens on tour stays on tour" antics over the years, are the stuff of legends.
