In a hard-fought, entertaining game, the Banger Colts defeated Wangderm on Sunday at the Thai Naval Academy at Samut Prakan. The Colts fully justified their position on the TRU ladder with a convincing victory over a determined and committed Thai Navy side.
In the first half, the Colts built up a significant lead. The forwards were consistently quicker to the breakdown, which earned them plenty of ball. With play predominantly in the Wangderm half, this enabled them to keep the scoreboard ticking over.
The pack quickly established dominance at the set-pieces, which helped to set a solid platform. With an advantage in the scrums, the Colts were not short of possession with the pack driving forward through several phases. "Man of the Match" Dillon Waimer the new American Banger, was devatasting making the big tackles and skilful with ball in hand.
The backs had plenty of ball however, lacked cohesion on occasions against a determined Navy defence. Having said that all the backs did play well. Max and Adrien had superb games with Adrien scoring a magnificent solo try in the corner. Kilea, James and Dylan were always threats, breaking through the Navy backline. Kilea’s intercept try on the Navy tryline was test match stuff. Jamie Partingon on the wing also had a magic game.
The second half saw the Bangers maintain their dominance, although to their credit Wamgderm kept going and did not give up until the final whistle, making the Colts work for everything they got.
One of the most pleasing aspects of the Bangers game is the consistently strong defence the Colts have shown this year. The Colts can take a lot of positives from this win to take into next weeks game against the Saigon Geckos in their second match of the SEA Cup competition. Final Score : Banger Colts 27, Wangdern 9
