A day after the Byron Kelleher Charity Sevens, the Bangers were out playing again. This was regular match the Bangers host against the Bangkok Japanese which have euphemistically become known as training matches. Yesterday was tough encounter.
Played in four twenty minutes stanzas the Japanese took on the Banger forwards and backs at their own game. Whilst the Bangers enjoyed superiority in the first period with some superb work in the backs. the enthusiastic and well drilled Japanese squad never gave up and by the third quarter were gaining the upper hand. Their two tries in the last quarter were enough to give them victory.
The Bangers tried hard all day and had countless opportunities to break the game open but were unable to breech the strong Japanese defense. It was obvious at the end of the match, that fitness was an issue for some players after the summer break. The Banger squad is work in progress.
