Bangers at the Cambodia 10’s

A great weekend on and off the field for the Colts. Flying in with 11 players was always going to make it a bit more difficult for the team, however heart is always in abundance and we were fortunate enough to have AD join us from Indonesia to make it an even 12.

Severe rain the previous night meant a very muddy pitch greeted the boys in the morning. Old friends and foes The Fabs were first up, and in a tight match The Bangers came away with a solid first win. Next was a hometown team consisting of small but very determined tacklers as the boys found out. Much like their Thai counterparts they were very keen to run the ball. Some flared tempers and ill discipline on their part would eventually help the Bangers to their second win of the day. With only a one match break between the third and final game it was always going to be difficult. A very tight match throughout saw the Bangers on the defensive for long periods which would eventually take its toll and resulted in the first loss of the day.

The final day kicked off against the Rahus who sported a couple of very sleek Fijian boys, making it a challenging encounter. The Bangers put up a spirited fight but in the end going down to the eventual tournament winners. The result meant a Bangers vs. Anaconda (Malaysia) playoff for the plate. The team determined to bring back some silverware for the club played in which was probably their best game. Down 5 points with one minute remaining the lads managed to turn over the ball and swing it out wide for a 75m try. With the kick failing to convert, the game went into extra time and the boys, taking advantage of momentum managed to seal the win and secure the plate.

A big thanks to tour organisers James Jackson and Tates for all their effort, to the Belle’s for their continued support and to all the players (and their families) who sacrifice the time and money to make these things happen.

Until next year!
