The Bangers Colts kicked off TRU 2013 competition in style by rolling Thai Navy 2 – Luk Pradu – at the Naval Academy at Samut Prakan on the weekend. The Bangers turned up expecting a hard contest. After their defeat last year to the Thai Navy in 2nd division Grand Final, the Colts were looking forward to the challenge to tackle the Navy again. This they did with flair style and panache.
The Colts dominated early having a lion share of possession through good lineout work and controlled raids by the forwards. At the half The Colts were leading 19 – 7 having racked up three tries including a couple by new Banger and "Man Of the Match" Simon Williams. The forwards providing a solid platform all afternoon giving quality ball to the backs to weave their magic who were keen on running from all around the park.
The second half was much like the first. The Colts continued to push the Navy deep into their half forcing them to defend. A very good performance all round by both forwards and backs lead well by Adrien Simon, Andrew Tatam and Roberto Guolo. Max had his usual reliable game at half back, Kilea had a magnificent game in the centers and Jamie Partington was always a threat on the wing. Putting his football talents to good use was another new Banger, who recently represented Fiji in the World under 20’s in France. Dylan Bower.
It was not all plain sailing. The Colts had to withstand pressure from the young Navy side, who tested the Bangers defensive resolve on occasions. The Bangers defence held only allowing through single try.
It was one of the best Colts team performances ever in this competition. Jeff Francois Klentzi the team coach, was a very happy man. Final score : Banger Colts 37. Luk Pradu. 9
