Five days of hard pedaling and the "Bangers On Bikes" Charity Bike Ride team arrived in Phuket. It was hard slog with temperatures above 40’C each afternoon during the journey south to the resort island. Leaving Bangkok last Monday, the eleven riders and five support crew were on a mission to raise 500,000 baht for the Asia Center Foundation(ACF) in Phuket and the Nak Suu Tigers Rugby Academy in Klong Toey, Bangkok.
The charity ride is no walk in park with the gut wrenching "hump" or hill days taking there toll. Of the eleven riders seven completed the ride. The look of joy on the faces of the team as they crossed the Sarasin Bridge onto Phuket Island was captured by the local media and was front page news.
The ride was not over. The hard slog from the Bridge to Patong Beach was as tough as it gets. Arriving at their hotel a little worse for wear, the team had a quick shower and then it was off to the Asia Center Foundation. The young Thai children put on a magnificent welcome and show for the team. The ACF Director, Roesiln Muller was on hand to express her appreciation for the cyclists effort. All over until next year.
