The Banger Ancients never cease to amaze. Midway through the afternoon on the second day of the Bangkok Tens, the silver tails gave a display of open rugby that entertained and amused the viewing public. They just get better with age. Sure, there were missed tackles, spilled ball and disregard for the offside and interchange rules, but who cares. Everyone was having fun and that’s is it what it is all about. Keeping players in the game no matter how old you are, is sacrosanct element of the Banger rugby credo
Just prior to the game, the Ancients trotted on to the paddock using a little known vaudeville two step called the Ancient Salsa. Their cadence was perfect. After the mandatory group picture, a ceremony was held to present a cheque to the Nak Suu Rugby Academy, a foundation for underprivileged Thai kids, the club routinely supports.
The Ancients new leader, Kevin Hutton Smith, has some big plans for the lads in the coming years. Exciting times
